Ariana Grande Addresses Criticism Over Her Changing Voice: “I’ve Always Done This”
Trend Alert: Ariana Grande is clapping back after her fans complained about her new way of speaking. After a segment of her interview on Penn Badgley’s “Podcrushed” pod cast where fans pointed out a shift in her pitch and speaking voice, the pop star took to her IG live on June, 18 showcasing that these changes are well thought out and part of the process.
Interviewed in a TikTok video with Grande, the singer speaks about her new music, switching from a deeper to a higher pitch in the middle of the clip. TRS captioned the video as “The Voice Change??” this resulted into increased comment section actions where people accused her of faking the speech. To this, Grande explained that she uses a higher tone which has become ‘habit’ when performing Glinda in “Wicked” for the past two years.
She also emphasized that her vocal health plays a significant role in these changes, stating, “I intentionally change my vocal placement (high/low) often depending on how much singing I’m doing. I’ve always done this, BYE.”
This isn’t the first time Grande’s voice has drawn attention. Back in March, she faced similar scrutiny after co-hosting the 2024 Oscars with Cynthia Erivo, who also stars in “Wicked.” Grande has previously shared that she auditioned for Glinda and committed to daily voice and acting lessons for six months, which contributed to the shifts in her vocal style. “I trained every day, Chile, to change my speaking voice, even my singing voice,” she mentioned during “The Zach Sang Show” earlier this year.
While some focused on her vocal changes, many fans were more intrigued by the news that Grande is working on new music, possibly for a deluxe version of ‘Eternal Sunshine.’ She shared, “I went to the Met Gala, then hit the studio the next day and stayed there for 10 days. I’ve been writing a lot and maybe there’s more to come—I want to do a deluxe at some point.”
