On Golden State Warriors media day in September, Stephen Curry averred that he thought that his team could be consistent and place themselves in a place where they would be able to challenge for the championship. Recently only, in the start of this week’s matches, the Warriors already have achieved 7 wins and 1 loss thus ranking them at par with Oklahoma City Thunder and Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference of NBA. They recently triumphed against the Boston Celtics, the match score reading 118-112, in the Celtics’ home ground, the TD Garden.
Even so, Curry is careful not to overdo it with arrogance. In the recent game he managed to secure 27 points together with 7 rebounds, 9 assists, and 4 steals and still utter that phrase “We have not achieved anything”. He as much pointed out that in order to be a good team, they must win the games that should win and also have to be decent on the road as well as on home stand. That they have done so far, but there are many more games left to play ahead of them.
The Warriors are competing with an “Everyone Gets in the Game” to ensure every player is active in the game. On Wednesday, the Warriors had eleven players in total dressed for the game with Brandin Podziemski being a no-show due to a sick stomach but the Warriors’ coaching staff found it wise to play all players for at least 13 minutes. This strategy enabled the suns to always be cruising on power and defense to match the celtics hence putting pressure on the Celtic’s offence. The Celtics, who are normally a good three-point shooting team, connected on only 19 of 54 but committed 12 turnovers.
Warriors Outlast Celtics in Thriller, Continue Strong Season Start
Joe Mazzulla of the Celtics came out acknowledging that the Warriors have a good physicality and defense, which made them rise to the occasion. Barely midway in the last period, Golden State took the upperhand after Gary Payton II retrieved the basketball, leading to a 15-7 Polt charge. Kevon Looney’s key rebounds were also significant, they were also thinking about his rebound performance in the 2022 Championship when Golden State won against Boston.
The win came after an early-season challenge, showing the Warriors’ strength isn’t just temporary. Next, they face strong teams like Cleveland, Oklahoma City, and Memphis in the coming week. Curry said he’s enjoying this team’s style, where everyone stays involved and the game plan can change each night.
“It’s a fun way to play,” Curry said, acknowledging that as the season goes on, rotations might tighten, but for now, everyone is stepping up, and it’s working.
